      Congratulations, everyone.

And a huge thank you to Deb Werksman. That was quite an undertaking. I had assumed only the winning entries would be critiqued. It was extremely helpful to read all of the responses.

Congratulations to everyone who got submission requests!
And a standing ovation (really, I'm standing ) to Deb Werksman (sitting down now, b/c it's hard to type while standing) -- for putting in the extra time and consideration to reply to ALL the pitches! Amazing.

I was not one of those brave souls who pitched, but I learned so much from their queries and Deb Werksman's responses.

I noticed that one category requested was "suspense" and several queries were rejected b/c they were "mystery."

Now I'm wondering, what are the differences/distinctions among suspense-mystery-thriller? So often they are lumped together in an overall category, and there's often overlap in a book description (suspense-thriller, or mystery-suspense).

Yes, I get that in a mystery someone follows clues to track down a murderer, but isn't that often suspenseful? or thrilling?
What makes a book a "mystery" and not "suspense?"

I've got what I think of as a suspense-thriller WIP on the back -burner, and I'd like to know how to position it correctly when the time comes.

      Curious (and confused)
