The Dirty Little Secrets of Character Development

Instructor: Keena Kincaid. Do you know the secret to character development? 

We all keep secrets from each other—and sometimes from ourselves. Three-dimensional characters are no different, and it’s the author’s job to reveal those deep, dark secrets and desires that drive plot and conflict.  

This summer, Keena Kincaid will teach “The Dirty Little Secrets of Character Development,” an intense, interactive workshop that leads participants through fun, inventive exercises that will help them root out their characters' deep, dark secrets and desires, as well as show how to use these secrets to further plot, conflict and—of course—the romance.  

Through lessons and exercises, participants will:

    * Gain insight into how secrets affect character at the deepest level;
    * Understand how these secrets reveal themselves through words and actions even if the character never confesses; and
    * Learn how to use this knowledge to propel the plot forward in a logical, engaging manner.

Keena Kincaid is the author of four historical books set in the 12th
century. My love of medieval history began when I first read Beowulf and
hasn’t waned. In addition to my studies in college and graduate school, I
am a member of the Medieval Academy of America, which enables me to keep
up with the latest historical research and theory.

When not working or writing romance, Keena regales her niece and nephews
with stories of quick-thinking ladies, mathematically challenged knights,
and ill-mannered dragons that chew with their mouths opened.

A moderator is assigned for each workshop and will introduce himself/herself on the first day of class. The moderator is available to answer any website questions, assist the instructor, and address any concerns. We urge every participant to contact the moderator immediately if you feel the workshop experience falls below expectations so we may address issues promptly before the workshop ends.
