| Shaping and Sculpting: the Art of the Edit | |
Instructor: Jill Elizabeth Nelson. You’ve typed "The End" on that last page of manuscript, but now it’s time to go back and shape and sculpt the raw material. Award-winning author Jill Elizabeth Nelson offers techniques to streamline the process. Sure, edits do mean work, but why not take a targeted approach? The month-long course will explore topics such as "Getting Violent with Your Reader: Hook Them on the Way In—Punch Them on the Way Out," "Setting is NOT Description," "Dialogue Dynamics," "Initial Essentials," "Characters That Crackle," "Dig Deeper—Make It Worse!," and "Elementary, My Dear Author" (checking grammar, punctuation, and spelling). Jill will also share a specific technique for cutting word count to fit publisher guidelines that results in a better manuscript—guaranteed!—while sacrificing minimal content.
