Great! I have time to enter then
I've just been told that the contest is open to ALL writers and it doesn't matter if you're unpublished or published....
Thank you. I'll do that then at least I'll know for next time.
Hi, That's the first time that I've seen that statement as it's not on the main page about the contest. You might want to email the contest coordinator: Diehl-contest@savvyauthors.com and put the name of the contest in the Subject line. Sorry I can't help further. June
I was about to enter the Fantasy writing contest, then at the very last minute just, after I'd uploaded my scene, I saw from the very last item (the I agree box) on the upload-your-entry page, that the entrants can't have been published in full length fiction! There was nothing in the details to explain this and when I clicked on the rules the page was blank.
Thanks June! This does answer my questions. MG ranges from 20-45K and until I really get started, I wouldn't know the exact length of mine, but for a year long course I would hope to write more than one. Becky
Hi Becky, For those in the USA, the meeting will be by phone. For others it will probably be a chat. These meetings will most likely average about an hour. (NOTE: I will be doing the calling, since there are no extra long distance charges from my cell phone service. If someone wants to call me from outside the USA, we can work that out.) If you wish to work on a MG fantasy (well, actually two!) that works for me. (I read lots of MG and YA fiction.) I think you could make that work – working on two MG novels that share a common story world and some characters. Once you finish the first you could simply begin the second one, and the same when we move to the revision phrase of the class. (I’ve been working with Sharon on developing more YA and MG workshops which might be offered in 2012.) Hope that answers your questions! If not, please let me know. Take care, June
course details questions June, On the student and instructor participation it says we will meet at least once very three months? Does that mean on the phone, IM, chat room? And what is the expected length or time of those meetings? Also, if I wanted to write a middle grade fantasy, is that okay with you? Middle grade novels are generally shorter, so would it be reasonable to write two 40K novels, rather than one 80K novel? My thoughts are the two ms would be a series or companion books, so they would basically be the same characters/setting etc. Thank you, Becky
