This is not a steampunk, but I can bring in the Pueblo spirituality. I am also outlining a novel about vodoo in New Orleans. I want the following story to be a romantic suspense involving Native American beliefs.
Andrea’s posh life in River Oaks is ruined by divorce after she discovers her chronically philandering husband, Dan, carousing with the owner of an escort service. Pitching out her collection of Judith Lieber purses and Jill Saint John outfits in exchange for denim skirts, suede jackets and turquoise jewelry, she shakes her paranoiac fear of flying and plans a trip to California with her daughter, Jessica.

After the plane is forced to make an emergency landing in Albuerquerque because of severe turbulence, her daughter insists on going back to Houston while she decides to stay in New Mexico and start a journey of self-discovery.

Andrea befriends a Native American real estate guru and quickly finds herself seriously attracted to him and his proud Navaho culture.

Just when her panic attacks are replaced by peace and tranquility, conflict sets in between she and Jerry because of cultural differences. His traditional family culture reminds her that her family is now fractured. This is hard for her since she was brought up in a strong nuclear family. So she leaves her profitable house-sitting business and decides to spend time with her daughter, Sandy, who works in Paris. Jessica joins them and for a week they are once again sharing lunches, shopping and late night talks.

Dan, desperate to save his business, berates himself for letting Andrea have usafrux of the house for as long as she needs it. He plans a business trip to persuade Andrea to remarry him. He rationalizes this would be best for the family.

Andrea, initially furious for Dan’s intrusion, decides to give Dan’s profession of newfound morality a chance, so they rekindle their old love in the romantic city. A bad decision to preserve her family causes her to reunite with him. It’s not long before she finds out he only wanted to dissolve the divorce so he could mortgage the River Oaks home to bail himself out of an illegal smuggling ring investment.

Created by After the second divorce from Dan, depression takes over. But not until she has a narrow escape from an unintentional overdose of Xanax, does she realize she is family enough for her two daughters. Sobered by this knowledge, passion and reality reunite and the story ends with Andrea and Jerry’s families gathered for a barbecue on his vast ranch. Jerry plans for a hot air balloon to wisk them away so he can share the big sky and his beloved New Mexico with Andrea.
