BootCamp ate my lunch!
Me the high wordcount goddess slid in with a lousy 62,484 words for June! Holy Moly that's my worst month this year!!!!
What Happened?
Like the slightly OCD program manager (PM) that I am, I had to hold my own Post-Mortem (or post-partum in trendy PM circles) to find out why I slipped. I had planned to:Not a heady list by any means! The Box is hovering around 30,000 words and NOT DONE. Groan. And I slipped by 27,516 words? Doomed.
- Complete the first draft of the box, my YA, SciFi.
- write 90,000 words
If you have never participated in a Post, questions are usually distributed and the results collated by the PM. Since we all know who's who here, I'll skip that part. lol.
The Post:
PM Question #1--> Did you feel that you had the tools available to achieve your goals?
Lame Leslie Answer--> Duh, yes. ::wiggles fingers:: ::glares at computer::
PM Question #2--> Were you properly prepared, your prework done, plotted, character sheets prior to June 1?
Lame Leslie Answer--> Weeeell, it's like this...I *HAD* it all done..but then I got this GREAT idea about a new plot twist....
**PM comment....Ahhhhhh.. makes check on notepad**
PM Question #1--> Were there any distractions? Was your working enviorment sufficient to your needs?
Lame Leslie Answer--> :: perks up :: Absolutely not! That freaking sun came out! It had not stopped raining since October and then WHAM June 1, sunshine! The weeds....
**PM comment....::rolls eyes:: Ahhhhhh.. makes check on notepad**
PM Question #1--> Do you feel your management provided you with the support that you need to be successful?
Lame Leslie Answer-->:: Perks up again:: Yeah! It's all HEATHER's fault!!!
PM Comment:
What we have here is a lack of self control with respect to shiny new plot ideas and a desire to frolic in the sun. Had Leslie simply wrote the story she plotted in May, and not taken a wild leap out into the unplotted weeds she likely would have a completed first draft of The Box which her buddies in the Angst Army would be dissecting right now. But no. She pulled weeds and noodled over spiffy new plot twists.
However, July is still reasonably fresh and she types fast. There is hope.
