A Year-long Writing Intensive Workshop Premise: A year-long, intensive. limited enrollment writing program focusing on daily, weekly, and monthly goals that feed in to the overall goal of planning, writing, editing, and preparing for the submission process both a novel AND a handful of shorter pieces. No previously written work is to be used for this class -- we have a revision section, but this is not the place to dust off a previously written manuscript. We start from scratch, together. You will also learn how to juggle multiple projects simultaneously.

Target: Advanced, committed writers interested in a year of professional-level writing in both time and quality.

This Masters level, writing-intensive course looks through the lens of Folklore, Religion and Myth to incorporate the timeless motifs, emotional resonance, and powerful impact that myth creates. We discover the echoes in our personal history, literature, scripture, folk-tales, songs and culture.

Through the reading, writing, and critical analysis of mythic literature, participants will learn techniques to produce myth-based novels that often speak through metaphor, symbol, allusion and echo. Samples of novels and movies will be used as models.
