Have you ever had someone ask you for a blurb about your story? An editor or agent perhaps? What the heck is a blurb? According to Wikipedia it’s a short summary or words of praise accompanying a creative work. Hmph. That really doesn’t tell you anything. Not if you want to come up with a blurb for your story. A blurb’s function is to entice the reader to buy the book. Whether that’s the editor or agent you’re submitting to or the reader at the bookstore who pulls your book off the shelf. Now when you get published your publisher will almost always write the blurb for you. Whether your editor does it or a copywriter does it. But for you aspiring authors out there the blurb can be a powerful marketing tool. Just like the logline, it should excite the reader into wanting to know more.
