Oooohhhh ...That's what you've been up to! cool beans. m
Yay! Wow that is so cool. You all especially you Liz must've worked really hard to make this happen - so i just want to say thank you. Can't wait
Rory, thanks for squeezing us into your busy schedule! The chat was fantastic, and I'm really bummed that I had to cut out at the end to go run a pitching session. In the first 30 seconds of the chat, you said something which literally had my mind reeling for the next ten minutes... From the breakdown, the first thing to wrap your head around is that violence works. It works very well to get what you want. Stealing food by force, especially if you have weapons and the victim does not, is far easier and safer than working a farm for eight months. By the time I was able to assimilate this perspective, you were discussing how knights and other historical soldiers viewed killing and death with my second favorite quote... ..when you write a twelfth century rogue, the character will slit throats without thinking or hesitation. He will care more about not getting messy than having nightmares. He won't try to hide evidence because no one will look. And you kept the eye-opening dialogue going! Your entire chat was packed with insightful viewpoints which constantly challenged my previously moral-based view on violence. I bought your book last night and it's at the top of my TBR pile! We've posted the transcript in the Symposium, and I recommend everyone who missed the chat go read it. Especially if you write historicals! Oh boy! Thanks for stopping by, Rory!
No worries Rory! I'm just sorry I missed getting an opportunity to chat with you. Hmmm... maybe you can come back sometime and do it again?
My fault. I had a plane change and was going to be in the air Wednesday instead of Thursday. Liz graciously moved it up so I could do it after getting through airport security and before boarding. Rory
yes please! good idea. B/c I was looking forward to this chat but last time I checked it wasn't at 6 AM [PDT]
How did the pitching go today? Just curious since this was a timed chat pitch.
Okay - I found the Symposium Schedule at the bottom of the forum with the day by day listings. Is there anyway to move that to the top? And make it bigger?
How did I miss the change in time for this?? Can we have a section in the symposium just for changes to any schedules or other such admin tidbits for all the participants to see. I've been in there all morning and not hanging out on the main home page.
LOL - I'm already a vegetarian. I have Infinity on my to-read pile, and I haven't even read the blurb yet. I saw Sherrilyn's name and grabbed the book. I have to say I'm really curious now...
Ladies-- Who says vampires have to be dead?
Riley I'm with you on the sexy hot vamps. *winks*
I loved S Kenyon until it came to the dream hunter books. I just found her earlier this year, and I bought all her books in bulk. I skipped the dream hunter books, they were boring. I did enjoy the were hunters books, too. I can't bring myself to read the other series ... I'm not into futuristic sci-fi'ish stuff, so not sure I would enjoy them! I haven't read any other zombie books. Zombies are just gross. At least vamps are generally sexy undead. Zombies are def. not.
I don't suppose you've read the Anita Blake books in that case? Lol I love Sherrilyn Kenyon though I have been disappointed in the last few books. Oh! Except for her League books...wow! Great futuristic romances...or are they considered sci-fi? Either way, they were great. She's a wonderful writer and I'll keep reading her work and hope she gets out of this weird funk.
I'm sure I'll still buy her books. She really is a fantastic author. And I could handle "different then what I'm used to" from her because I tried her Kinley MacGregor Avalon series and loved it. But I don't recall anywhere on the blurb for this book mentioning "campy, kid zombie caper". I think I will have to call it quits on her YA endeavour or at least get an advanced reader to clear it of flesh-eaters. LOL But if she ruins veggies for me next, I'll be left with nothing but oreos to eat. Hmmm. That might not be altogether bad. : )
I love her books, especially her Were-Hunters but I love were-animals so that's a given. Mmhmm haven't read the book you mentioned yet, not sure if I want to now, don't like zombies. I guess we all at one point have been disappointed in our favorite author for writing a book that is somehow different then what we use to read from her/him. I don't think that is a reason to not buy any other book from that author. But that's just my two cents.
Yeah, Kelly. Disappointment. Huge, overflowing buckets of disappointment. And I can't believe you don't remember the zombies, Riley! The whole plot was about chasing zombies. They even have a ridiculous scooby discussion on if the zombies were a virus or something else and omg it was a video game that created them! I almost threw my Nook across the room when I got to that part. The important thing here is she didn't deliver on her promise to her reader--me. She promised a teen version of the Dark Hunters filled with Greek and Roman gods and mythology and instead gave me some trendy, campy book on zombies. You just can't do that, folks. And yes, I'm going on week six and no meat. Still. Once the seed was planted that I was *really* eating FLESH--muscle and tendons and ick--I couldn't shake it. I think it had a much more visceral impact for me because I was really into the book before the wtfery. The whole world was vividly drawn and I was just there. And then someone ripped into someone's skin and I wanted to hurl. Waaaah. I know, I'm a big wimpy cry-baby. I'm also one of her number one fans who'll now hesitate before I buy another of her books. She really let me down in a way that giving me 150 pages of Acheron's backtory or 300 pages of Dream Hunter nonsense never could. She changed the rules of the game and didn't tell me. Not good.
Liz! I, too, am not a zombie liker, let alone lover. I liked "Zombie Moon" by Lori Devoti, but there's not alot of that flesh-eating shtuff. Don't know how zombies could be the next big thing. Guess I'll always be a vampire lover-- and there's a lot of those hotties to love. The biggest thing that comes through is your disappointment. A highly anticipated read, and a huge let-down. We've all experienced it. Maybe you could start back on carnivorous foods slowly... like chicken soup. Regards, Kelly
You ARE a really big wimp! I enjoyed the book when I read it, but honestly I can't remember much about it. I didn't even remember that it had zombies when I first started reading your post. Then I remembered the football team eating everyone. It didn't make a huge impression on me obviously, if I didn't remember much of what happened!! Although I agree slightly - I can't watch Saw movies and I don't enjoy horror movies either - you are a big sissy for not eating meat after reading a zombie book lol!
Sounds like fun. I have never been to RT but I have heard about the costumes.
