Hey Heather, Thanks for passing this on! It looks awesome! I wouldn't have known about it without your post - thanks again! Jenn
I love your new site Heather.
Heather I love your site! Makes me want to go edit mine once again! (Which I should do anyway - it needs to be more professional I think...) I'll post a blurb about this contest on my blog thelabotomyofawriter.blogpost.com to help spread the word for you. Look for the post next monday or tuesday!
Registered, have the days off, ready to roll!
Yay! All registered and looking forward to this!
Yes indeed, I have been registered and await the opening!!
Sounds fantastic, thanks Heather! Deb Mc.
Hey Heather, Haven't "seen" you a while since I've been MIA. HUGE congrats on the agent! I always said your writing was awesome and knew this day would come. Can't wait til you announce a sale!!. Christal
Congratulations, Heather. It's obvious from the additional comments you have put years into sharpening the craft of your writing, a well deserved reward. I appreciate your cautionary tale. It's so tempting to enter the pitch contests you see on Savvy, despite the fact you have just six of a possible twenty chapters complete in the vault. I'll have to sit on my hands when I see those contests! Cheers, Fiona.
Thanks Marie, Laura, and C.J.! From the tiny reports she's feeding me while making the rounds in NY, the editors she's pitched it to all think my book sounds fascinating and want to read it. Can't decide whether I'm excited or nervous... LOL
Wishing you all the luck in the world with it!! Awesome news and major congrats! You rock!!
What a story! We'll all be hoping for more good news!
Major congrats to you ... and lots and LOTS of good luck!
Leslie - My partner in we-REALLY-shouldn't-have-done-that crime!! Kelly - Both Mandy and her intern read the full that night/the next morning before she called to offer representation. As Leslie pointed out, there were a couple years of work that went into this, namely with the other book IMPURE. That sucker took me 2 years to write! By the time Mandy requested it in February, it had been queried wide and form rejected a LOT. She loved my writing, the voice, the premise of IMPURE, and the characters, but wanted to see if I could pull off a major plot revision before signing me. I was in the middle of that when my muse went on strike, demanding I write FLAWED. Because Mandy already knew my writing and we'd chatted so much, I think the door opened a lot faster than it would have with another agent. Kathleen, for example. She didn't know if I could write my way out of a paper bag which is probably why she only requested a partial, even though she loved the story concept. Melinda - Thanks! And yes, definitely don't do it this way. Pitching unfinished books is a bad, bad idea :-)
Thanks for sharing! It's good for us to learn from your mistakes, so we don't make the same ones. Savvy Authors is a great place to get noticed though!
Wow. Scary story. Did you send her chapters after the query, or did she want it based solely on the query? My stomach feels for you-- those butterflies probably feel more like bees right now-- but you do have a terrific crew behind you at Savvy. These people rock! Hope the MS is well received, and will be rooting for you, Heather! Regards, Kelly
Ah Heather, what you didn't add was the years and years of work and study that you have been doing all along perfecting you craft so that when this crazy set of opportunities flopped in your lap you were right there with the voice, talent and skills to make it all work. Hats off to you!
