Personally, I don't want to know the ending. I love twists and turns in a novel. And I really love a novel that leaves me thinking, especially when issues of some social mis-justice are weaved into a story. Tragedy happens, and I believe we identify with a tragedy is some way.
But what makes it unique is what author does with that tragedy, whether there's resolve or more questions.

That's also true: we join so that we belong, and so others think that we're not the only ones that are crazy writers ;-)

Let's see...I've got Savvy Authors, Absolute Writers, RWA, FF&P Chapter, SOLA Chapter, and there are a couple of loops I'm in that I can't recall off the top of my head. I think it's just the nature of the beast really. We want to connect with people like us because then we can tell the "outsiders" (non-writers) that "I do socialize! I'm not a hermit *sniff*" kind of thing. Or maybe that's just me? lol

    Danica,

Believe it or not, I've been thinking about your comment since this morning ;-) I can't really think of books that I've re-read ... on purpose (let's not talk about those re-issued Dean Koontz paperbacks). I've certainly read a "text" more than once for college, and I re-visit sections for pleasure, but not all the way through. I'll have to think if there's a special something out there that will pull me back. Don't get me wrong -- I have books that I absolutely LOVE; I just usually move onto something else. (Same thing with movies ...)

I've been in that place several times! I read...um voraciously. Okay, even that doesn't explain it. Let me put it this way...I bought a Kindle and will have had it for exactly two weeks this Saturday...and I've read over 30 short stories and two novels on it. *wince* When I do get in the reading funk though, I revisit old favorites. The books that I will never, ever, ever get rid of and will have to reorder a new copy because they're that thumbed through. Usually when I sink into my favorite stories by my absolute favorite authors, I catch the bug again.

Thanks Faith! Sounds like some good advice: step away from the books and NOT feel guilty ;-) My mom said that she's gone through a few "book funks," too.

I've been in a book funk plenty of times before! What I'll do is just not read for a few days... crazy suggestion, I know... and then sooner or later the desire to read a specific book will catapult me back into the TBR pile. Just ride it out, don't force yourself to read something if you're not feeling it, or else the funk will just last longer!

    Gloria,

I am so sorry for your loss. Wonderful to focus on those strong memories that you have. I've known a few people to die young -- between 25-30 -- and they all seemed so full of life, really those people to be living life to the extreme. Makes one wonder about life.

    All the best,

    Marie

    Marie,
My most sincere sympathy on the loss of your dear brother. I'm so sorry you and your family and friends have to go through this.
My 27 year old son died suddenly 8 years ago and with time I chose to hold the happy memories; the enthusiasm, humor, courage, gentleness, all that made Steven well, Steven. Wathcing his siblings cope was the hardest for me, because I know we will be together again - later.
I pray that God will comfort you and your family and friends in this time of turmoil and pain.
    Gloria

My condolences on your loss and blessings on your journey forward. And, yes. Writing from inside emotions, especially strong ones, gives our stories depth and honesty. It helps us create, with very little, a strong resonance with the reader's experiences.

Thank you for your courage to both explore and share your exploration.

You are too funny! We tend to keep late hours. Lucky if the children go to sleep by 10 p.m., and then often he's often doing work while I'm writing ;-)

You bought him a book?!!! Honey...put him to sleep properly ( by setting aside some time to play with him) and then get out of bed and do your writing. I'm just sayin....

    Heather,

You think it's simply because we're "working" at home? My mother is an artist, a painter, and she has rented a studio. This way, she goes someplace to work. Not very convenient when you have small kids at home, though ...

You described how I fell when I write perfectly. My kids come over and I have to shoo them away sometimes. My husband sits with his laptop, bored, because I'm ignoring him. The guilt is paralyzing sometimes.

Danica -- your response made me laugh. So perfect thinking about how the pace of the scene corresponds with how you chew the gum.

And Kelly, I drink Red Bull myself. I find it funny that the small size (normal size) comes in diet and regular, and then the medium one I can only find in regular and today I had my very first triple and it was diet. Odd fact, I know.

Not a snacker, but have to have my coffee. if it's really hot outside, cold drink (no sugar, no carbonation). I don't like anything that gets in the way of typing, so I tend to "snack" on music.
