Instructor: Lucinda Schroeder. Inside the Criminal Mind gives writers the information they’ll need to characterize their deviate story people. This course covers criminal motivation, mind-set, self-talk and why deviants expect their crimes to go undetected.
Deviant and unpredictable characters add depth and mystery to any storyline. These characters keep readers in a constant quandary as to what will happen next.
The course begins by studying what drove a mother, wife and Sunday-school teacher, to murder two husbands. By the time the students unravel her true motivation for the murders, they’ll realize that--in her own mind--the murderess had no choice but to kill.
Learning from examples, students will be able to create characters that live unnoticed within the common fabric of society until they pull a trigger, grab a knife or concoct a poison.
The class also covers commonly known aggressive criminal behavior such as murders, rapes, robbery, and serial killing. Actual cases are used as examples to teach writers how to create their own criminally-inclined characters.
Finally, this class exposes students to criminology theories, forensic psychology, juvenile delinquency studies and how to develop a POV from inside the criminal mind.
