| Workshop Who ARE All These People? The Role of Secondary Characters in Romance |
||
Instructor: Jen Safrey. You have your hero. You are in love with him, and you’re sure your readers will be too. He’s sexy, smart, rugged, shy, daring, protective, whatever. You have your heroine. You have put a little of yourself into her, and you’re sure your readers will identify with her too. She’s sexy, smart, innovative, quiet, funny, sharp, whatever. And their conflict is electric and un-put-downable. What else could this story possibly need? A supporting cast. No matter whether you’re writing a historical, a contemporary or a wildly imaginative otherworldly romance, your hero and heroine need to interact with people other than each other. We'll explore the two main functions that each secondary character is responsible for, six archetypal secondary character roles, and do's and don't's of creating these characters. | ||
